Week 5 Recap

#1 Barifinkle/Team Sit on My Face 49 - #12 The Bullets 31

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
The Bullets stopped playing good defense when they were down 6 mid second half and let Barifinkle finish them. Mirkin and Gorodetsky spent the rest of the game bickering at the refs and each other.
Charlie Gilvarg. He scored 15 for Barifinkle who also got a lot of points from Chris Sweitzer. Barifinkle still looks invincible having not played any close games this year.
"We're waiting for your team Walt. You suck ass" - Barifinkle/Team Sit on My Face

Up Next: Barifinkle vs Supreme Court. The Bullets vs. NWA.

#2 The Express
44 - #6 Re- Elect Judge Jim Wascher 30

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Tim Denenberg earned a technical foul for slamming the ball on the ground after a Connor Smith layup at 25-23. A free throw, and a score put the Express down 1. It was a wake up call for the Express (who started the game losing 11-4) forcing turnovers nearly every possession after that, going on a 10-0 run to make it 35-26, and then closing out the game easily.
John Haller. Haller was just 2-4 from the charity strip, but he made up for it shooting. Haller went 10-13 from the floor for 22 points with Scott Gantner and Henry Perry doubling him the whole game. He made it look easy, with spin lay-ups seemingly every Express possession. Matt Haller contributed 9 on 7-8 free throw shooting.
"I didn't really know what I was doing" - Connor Smith after receiving compliments for his spinning lay-up.

Up Next: Express vs. Medieval Times. Jim Wascher vs. The Bomb Squad.

#4 The Bomb Squad
28 - #8 Medieval Times 25

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Jeff Dsida knocked down 3 of 4 free throws with 30 seconds left. Although it was close the whole game, Dsida provided the finishing touch for the Bomb Squad. Give credit to Medieval Times for playing them close.
Matt Traub. He started to hit a lot of shots in the clutch for The Bomb Squad. Medieval Times made an effort to shut down former player Willy Moore, who was held to just a point. It was a good win against a very determined Medieval Times.
"Yo, get me in the blog for outscoring Willy: 2 to 1" - Mike Maley

Up Next: Bomb Squad vs. Jim Wascher. Medieval Times vs. Express.

#9 AD 42 - #5 Tallula 38

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Brandon Batt made 2 free throws with 20 seconds left. AD was up 6 at the half, then stretched it to 12 early in the second only to see James Knight score 1o consecutive points to make it a 2 point game with 30 seconds left. Batt then connected the free throws to give AD the winning margin.
Matt Coan. He was able to take advantage of Knight's inability to rebound with his broken hand and score a ton of points down low grabbing nearly every board. James Knight broke his hand a few weeks ago and hasn't been 100% since. Despite a heroic 26 point performance wearing a cast, he couldn't get any support from his team.
"Everyone played like shit" - Mac Tucker

Up Next: Tallula vs. BYE. AD vs. McGarry Dangles.

#7 Ortega 62 - #14 Supreme Court 18

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Ortega showed up. It eliminated the possibility of a forfeit and Ortega took advantage of a terrible looking Supreme Court team.
Will Kiersey. He almost connected on a behind the back lay-up with 20 seconds left. Ryan Musgjerd also almost dunked after the game was over.
"Ortega beats Supreme Court. Dammit, we should've gone with Off in the Woods" - Supreme Court, with no consolation, like Off in the Woods has, after the loss.
Up Next: Ortega vs. Theo. Supreme Court vs. Barifinkle.

#10 Mallard Magic
33 - #17 NWA 28

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Alex Nadolna scored his first points of the year. It makes quite a statement about the quality of your defense when he's scoring on you.
Not Ryder Borre. With the game in hand, Mallard Magic spent the last eight minutes trying to get Borre to score. However, he wasn't able to convert many, including a lay-up over the back board.
"I finally outscored my ACT" - Alex Nadolna, proud of his 12 point performance.

Up Next: Mallard Magic vs. Off In The Woods. NWA vs. Bullets.

#11 Boo Radley and Friends 39 - #15 Coot's Coot 36

IT WAS OVER WHEN...

GAME BALL GOES TO...

QUOTE
Coot's Coot's run fell short: they were down 15 midway through the second half, and almost made the comeback of the season. It was too little, too late.
Jared Sperling. Sperling had 14 for Boo Radley who played sloppy the whole game. Horwitz was playing unselfish and Spencer was more of a facilitator than a scorer, so they were hard pressed for points.
"Coot's Coot" - A great chant during the opposition's free throws
Up Next: Boo Radley vs. Hank Mardukas. Coot's Coot vs. Phase 4.

#13 McGarry Dangles Inc
43 - #18 Off In The Woods 29

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Danny Malkin started knocking down deep shots. Malkin missed just 4 attempts from the floor, leading McGarry Dangles in scoring.
Danny Malkin. He was able to handle Off In The Woods (aka the Jared Hammernik attack) despite an 18 point performance from Hammernik.
"Rosie almost got into a tussle with Mulford" - Danny Douaire. Mulford is stating his case for toughest player in the league.

Up Next: McGarry Dangles vs. AD. Off In The Woods vs. Mallard Magic.

#16 Phase 4 24 - #19 Hank Mardukas 19

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Chris Regan was shut down by the tenacious Phase 4 defense. Without Mikey Ahern and Brandon Cramer (who slept through the game), Regan was their primary offense, and when he went cold, Hank Mardukas couldn't find points.
Sam Shapiro. He's been talking all year about how Phase 4 has been improving, culminating to the point where they were able to shut down the worst team in the league. Phase 4 faces Coot's Coot next week, and at 1-4, isn't mathematically out of the playoff picture quite yet.
"This one is for Gaines Adams" - Sam Shapiro, dedicating the victory to the Bears' late defensive end.

Up Next: Hank Mardukas vs. Boo Radley. Phase 4 vs. Coot's Coot.
