Week 1 Recap

#1 Barfinkle/Team Sit on My Face 47 - #8 AD 32

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Brandon Batt wasn't able to produce 30 points. Barifinkle knew what they were dealing with when they played AD last year, and this year they shut down Batt again. Alex Wislow, making his Night League debut, was fairly effective, giving AD some much needed size down low.
Chris Sweitzer. Sweitzer scored 14 in his quest to prove himself as Night League MVP, including a few assists. Murnighan added double digits, with 10, but overall Barifinkle just warming up in their 9th consecutive regular season victory.
"Week 4" - Ryan Murnighan, who with a bye week 2, and #17 NWA week 3, is already focusing on 1-0 Tallula Week 4.

Up Next: Barifinkle vs BYE. AD vs. NWA.
#2 The Bomb Squad 31 - #7 Boo Radley and Friends 29

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Jared Sperling couldn't commit a foul at the end of the game to try and get Boo Radley the ball back because time ran out. Spencer Levin drained a one handed half-court shot (intended to be a pass), with 3 seconds left, and the ref wouldn't give Sperling the foul, after the inbound pass.
Matt Traub. Traub scored the bulk of the points for The Bomb Squad, who were surprised by a much improved Boo Radley and Friends. Spencer Levin was very effective with 15 points, including a bomb from half court. Peter Lind added a few steals for the Bomb Squad.
"We'll take the W" - A relieved Jeff Dsida: The Bomb Squad were 15 point favorites, and got a scare from Boo Radley and Friends.

Up Next: Bomb Squad vs. Phase 4. Boo Radley vs. The Express.
#3 The Express 31 - #19 Phase 4 9
IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
John Haller converted on his 3rd 3-point play of the game, to put the express up 20-6, to open the half on a 9-0 run. After and 11-6 halftime score, The Express outscored Phase 4 20-3 in the second half. The game was highlighted by a whistle-happy ref, eager to blow whenever he could.
John Haller. He scored 14 points for the express, and 12 of their first 14. All 7 Express players scored with Kerby Hilarides helping with 5, Mike Hermanson 4, Matt Haller, Randy Petcov, Brantner Jones, and Tim Denenberg with 2.
"We need George Lopez to stop calling fouls on us" - Tim Denenberg, referring to the Hawaiian/Pacific Islander ref, who bore an eerie resemblance to Mr. Lopez.

Up Next: The Express vs. Boo Radley. Phase 4 vs. The Bomb Squad.
#4 Tallula 45 - #6 The Bullets 35

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
James Knight got the ball on a breakaway. Knight threw down a 2 handed tomahawk dunk, hung on the rim, and got his chin up over the rim. The dunk goes down as the first dunk in our class' Night League history.
James Knight. Knight scored 24 in his Night League debut, living up to the hype of preseason MVP. Last year's preseason MVP Robert Gorodetsky's 22 weren't enough for the Bullets.
"Damn baby I ain't ever seen a white boy dunk like that before" - Chris O'Connor (New Trier Paraprofessional)

Up Next: Tallula vs. Off In The Woods. The Bullets vs. Ortega.

#9 Theo 28 - #5 Mallard Magic & The Funky Bunch 25

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Walt Lyon hit 3 of 4 free throws to seal it for Theo. Theo went down early but then came back to tie it up at half. Fast break points and a tough press helped Theo seal the deal.
Walt Lyon. Clutch shooting at the end propelled Theo to a win in a "very well fought game" (Stu Brown). Brown liked what he saw from his team and said that first game rust in the form of turnovers is inevitable.
"Losing Week One just puts a damper on the whole season. They're not good; we just played poorly" - Gordie Campbell, disappointed in his team's effort
Up Next: Mallard Magic vs. Supreme Court. Theo vs. McGarry Dangles Inc.
#10 Medieval Times: Dinner and Tournament 44 - #16 Coot's Coot 20

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Medieval Times switched from a man to a zone defense. With the man, they were outscored 10-3 in the first few minutes of the game. Once they made the switch to zone, Coot's Coot didn't have a prayer, getting outscored 41-10 for the rest of the game.
Alex Hankin, TJ Keene, Joey Madej: All 3 were in double figures. It's hard to tell whether Medieval Times will be able to handle the loss of Willy Moore, and be this good all year because Coot's Coot isn't the best team in the league.
"Patrick Miner's ball-handling kept them in the game" - Alex Hankin

Up Next: Medieval Times vs. Hank Mardukas. Coot's Coot vs. Judge Wascher.
#11 Ortega 53 - #14 Off In The Woods 16
IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Jeff Dsida signed Peter Lind to play for The Bomb Squad. Off In The Woods never had a chance, not even putting up a fight against Ortega. Like Medieval Times, it's hard to judge Ortega's skill level from this game due to how bad Off In The Woods is.
Ben Morton: Morton scored 18 for Ortega. He got help from Dillon Oberlin, who is a leading candidate for tallest player. Oberlin got putback points for Ortega, who are out for vengeance after a weak preseason ranking.
"Tomorrow's Tribune headline: Ortega beats off in the woods!" - Off In The Woods, after the mastery of their name was finally able to be used.
Up Next: Ortega vs. The Bullets. Off In The Woods vs. Tallula.
#12 Re-Elect Judge Jim Wascher 50 - #18 Hank Mardukas 13

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Ben Burgess (2008-2009 runner-up: Best Blocker in Night League) stuffed Chris Reagan when Judge Jim Wascher was up 9-0. Hank Mardukas wasn't able to recover although Danny McGowan was doing his part shooting threes.
Scott Gantner was the most productive player on Re-Elect Judge Jim Wascher, but all 5 players scored 8 or more. Danny McGowan wasn't able to put on much of a show, living up to his self-proclaimed 9% three point shooting percentage, with 0 threes.
"I'm considering not showing up next week" - James Bartels, embarassed to be a part of Hank Mardukas.

Up Next: Judge Wascher vs. Coot's Coot. Hank Mardukas vs. Medieval Times.

#15 McGarry Dangles Inc. 28 - #13 Supreme Court 17

IT WAS OVER WHEN...GAME BALL GOES TO...QUOTE
Danny Malkin was able to get to the line over and over again. Malkin was 10 of 10 at the line en route to 16 points. Supreme Court was killed by Nick Dronen's wrist injury. Dronen, Supreme Courts' normal leading scorer, was only able to contribute 4 points.
Danny Malkin. Malkin didn't seemed phased by McGarry Dangle Inc's lost of star player Jeremy Rosenfeld, and took over as star player. Mills Rendell wasn't very productive down low.
"Rosenfeld who? We got Malkin" - Mills Rendell attempting humor.

Up Next: Supreme Court vs. Mallard Magic. McGarry Dangles Inc. vs. Theo.
